The Plea - Tengiz Abuladze
"The Plea" is part one of Tengiz Abuladze's trilogy. This portion of the trilogy is based entirely on the poems of Vazha-Pshavela (or just Vazha), the pen name of Georgian Luka Razikashvili.
Vazha lived from 1861 to 1915 in Georgia. He was born in a small village and died in Tbilisi. Many of Vazha's poems focused on the intersections of individuals and communities, and the responsibilities one has to their own moral codes, as opposed to the moral codes of their communities. Because Abuladze used only lines from the poems as dialogue, he was thus able to make much more critical statements towards Soviet way of being.
