Pirosmani - Georgiy Shengelaia
"Pirosmani" is the story of how Georgian artist Niko Pirosmani, or Nikala, came to success with his art.
Pirosmani was born in 1862 in Georgia on a small farm. He was a self-taught painter. He was poor for most of his life and painted mostly to make a living instead of for artistic ideology, which made his relations with other Georgian artists uneasy.
Pirosmani did not gain high popularity for his work until the 1950's, approximately 30 years after his death. Approximately 200 of Pirosmani's paintings exist today.
